New Orleans Spotlight: Mother's Restaurant

Mother's Worlds Best Baked Ham Restaurant: "Everybody gets fed. Everybody comes back."

Since 1938 Mother's restaurant on Poydras Street has been feeding locals, tourists, longshoreman, and celebrities with classic down-home New Orleans-style goodness. It’s a trip to get in line (which usually starts out on the sidewalk) and to make your way one-by-one to the counter to order what you're craving. Don't be fooled; it doesn't take long before you're next to order, so be ready and know what you want! Jambalaya, red beans and rice, chicken, seafood, Po'Boys, and my favorite...Breakfast Served All Day Long. They are open 7am to 10pm Monday through Sunday. You will probably walk by this place 10 times while in the Big Easy for the annual OPS Program. It’s centrally located and easy to find. They sell 90,000 pounds of Jambalaya and 25,000 soft shell crabs each year. DON'T expect white-table cloths because this is a street-level locals' favorite. DO expect to see a few characters in line with you!  For more information visit http://www.mothersrestaurant.net/.
