The Annual Program package
for the 2013 OPS Educational Program in New Orleans is complete and in the mail! OPS members should have received it this past week. Online registration is also available now! It has taken me (with
lots of help from the BOE) at least a year to complete the program.
I have been a member of
OPS for a while now. Every July,
I would received a package from the OPS for the annual program. When the package arrived, I just opened
it, browsed through the courses that were being offered, and circled the
courses that I wanted to take.
Sometimes, it was difficult to decide which courses I wanted to sign up
for because they were scheduled at the same time. I thought (and maybe other members have thought this as
well), "Why can’t those courses be spread out more?”
Since I have been with the
BOE for about eight years now, I have learned so much about how the program runs and how much goes into planning it every year. Here is how it works: each of the members of the BOE has a
four-year term. A BOE member volunteers
to be the education chair two or three years in advance for future Annual Programs. A year before the program, the education chair begins to recruit
speakers, which may be difficult with coordinating and accommodating so many
As the education chair for
this year, I am thankful that there are many people ready to help. Members of the BOE have been great in
helping me schedule and recruit speakers.
This year, we have many
world-renowned retina specialists scheduled to talk at the New Orleans Annual
Program. Also, there are many
phenomenal speakers that are OPS members. These speakers are always ready to
give their time and commitment to the OPS.
By now, the Annual Program package should have arrived in your mailbox. Please take a look and plan
to attend. Also, please feel free
to give suggestions to the OPS, and especially the BOE, about how we can make the
meeting better. Or think about
getting involved with the OPS.
Hope to see you in New
Orleans at the OPS meeting!
