Forty Years of Retinoblastoma Imaging

Speaker:  Brenda Gallie, MD, FRCSC

Retinoblastoma (Rb) is a rare, unique and complicated intraocular paediatric cancer with a low incidence. If untreated is fatal. Variation in quality and access to care exposes Rb families to unnecessary risks. Imaging has played a critical role in disease documentation, management decision making and has facilitated data collection to apply scientific methods to treatment. It has enabled unique partnerships between ophthalmology, oncology, genetics, other multi-disciplinary services that empower RB affected patients and families. This has given rise to the creation of a Canadian National Retinoblastoma Strategy (NRBS) to address the divergence of care.
