FAF Imaging Modalities: cSLO and mFC

Tim Steffens, CRA, OCT-C, FOPS

Fundus auto fluorescence is now a part of our daily practices, however, it wasn't until the advent of the confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope (cSLO) and modified color fundus camera (mFC) that FAF became practical. This course will review the basics of FAF, principles of auto fluorescence and wavelengths. Techniques needed to take diagnostics FAF images on the SLO and mFC will be demonstrated. Clinical cases will be presented to help better understand FAF interpretation and imaging. At the end of the course, the student will be able to compare and contrast different patterns of FAF, understand the chemistry of FAF, describe and demonstrate the best techniques for obtaining FAF images.
