BOC Eliminates the Performance Exam starting in 2018
The OPS Board of Certification (BOC) in partnership with Schroeder Measurement Technology (SMT) completed a CRA Focus Group Task in January 2017 to look into the elimination of the CRA Performance Exam. The primary goal of this focus group was to establish task/knowledge element exclusion criteria to differentiate between the critical and non-critical tasks of the CRA Performance Exam. The Committee then reviewed every knowledge, skill and task on the Performance exam outline to assess whether or not it could be tested on the Multiple Choice Examination (MCQ), the Portfolio, or both. The BOC and SMT recommended that the Performance assessment be discontinued. Content area weighting on the MCQ was adjusted to reflect this change, and the requirements for the portfolio submission were augmented to ensure that all tasks that were previously on the Performance Examination were also covered in the portfolio requirements.
What this means for you – The BOC will be adding images to the portfolio requirement and adding 25 questions to the MCQ. If you are in the process of obtaining the CRA certification, we wanted to give you your options on how to continue.
1) Finish all current requirements by the end of the year. We will be adding additional Performance testing sites to accommodate as many candidates as we can. If you have taken either the written or the performance portion of the exam, you will need to take the remaining portion of test this year or restart the program again in 2018 to meet all of the new requirements.
2) If you have only submitted your portfolio you can wait till 2018 and submit the additional images and take the new test or finish all testing requirements this year.
If you have paid testing fees, you do not need to pay an additional fee if you wait.
