Our 2014 OPS Annual Educational Program is now in the history books…and what a show it was! More than 20 new courses added so much to the program as we heard different perspectives from new speakers on a long list of relevant topics. We thought we knew all about glaucoma until we were Wowed by 3D projection of optic nerve, gonio and slit lamp photos in an exquisite visual journey. Our Scientific Session featured fascinating and diverse presentations from our members. The Ophthalmic Imaging Crash Course was a sold-out show. The Vendor Forums secured a block of time for our members to see the latest and greatest equipment on the market right on-site.
And oh how we enjoyed the Welcome Reception -a chance to catch-up with old friends and make new ones over libations and delicious food in an historic ballroom in our elegant Intercontinental Chicago Hotel. It was real treat to see the winning images from our OPS Competition projected along with the non-ophthalmic personal photography from our creative cousins. The scavenger hunt has now become a full-fledged component of the evening’s festivities, and what fun it was!
Most certainly a year of milestones, we celebrated our OPS 45th Anniversary with a wonderful talk by none other than our founding father, Johnny Justice Jr complete with a ‘look back’ at the times and events surrounding 1969. Scott Cousins, MD gave the 10th annual Don Gass Memorial Lecture and illustrated the many accomplishments of Dr. Gass and how he set the stage for our profession to grow, and how his work allows us to better care for our patients today. We honored our Executive Director Barb McCalley who has served in her incredibly vital position at the OPS, in this, her 20th year.
Over 100 Credit Hours were provided for attendees to choose from by our 83 Lecture and Workshop Faculty members this past week and my sincere thanks go out to each and every one of them for making this program an overwhelming success. My fellow Board of Education members proved once again that teamwork is the life-blood of this organization. That team, along with the volunteers and the difficult and critical work they do made this program soar!
My thanks to all and I look forward to seeing you at the Mid-Year Program in Ann Arbor!
