Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer at the OPS Annual Meeting….

Make New Friends….Have Fun…and

Give back to your Society all at the same time!!

One of the wonderful things about the OPS is that it is a society that is run by volunteers.  Our volunteers are passionate and committed to making the OPS a vital and valuable resource to our members and those in our field.  The Annual Program provides some great opportunities for new and veteran photographers to join the team of volunteers that produces our exceptional program.  You can earn free continuing education credits, get to know others in our field and support our educational program by volunteering!  There are a variety of ways you can be involved at the OPS Educational Programs. 


2016 Scientific Exhibit

The OPS Scientific Exhibit Committee is looking for volunteers to help host the scientific exhibit at the annual AAO meeting. Volunteers on the exhibit floor are there to represent the OPS and will answer visitor's questions about ophthalmic imaging, the various modalities and techiques demonstrated in the images, and to generally keep watch over the displays. No submissions are required to volunteer. If you are interested in hosting the exhibit for either a two or four hour shift, please contact: Allison Schmidt, CRA at: (218) 451-9574 or .  Individuals who are submitting images to the Competition may also check the appropriate box on the entry form.  As a volunteer, you will be issued a badge which admits you to the AAO Exhibit Hall for the day(s) you will host the exhibit.  Badge availability is limited so please volunteer early.

Sign up to be a Room Monitor in Chicago, Illinois.

Room monitors are needed for every lecture and workshop in the program.  In exchange for performing some classroom duties such as overseeing attendance and course materials you will be registered for the Unlimited Lecture Package at the 1-Day Lecture Package rate.  Room monitors must contribute a minimum of 15 hours.  In a time when our employers are spending less money on our continuing education programs, this can make a difference. You will receive credit for the class you are monitoring.  Hurry!  Sign up now BEFORE you register for any courses!  These positions fill fast!  Training will be done on a gotomeeting a few days prior to the Annual Program.  If you are interested or have any questions,

Help out with Audio/Visual

A.V. Equipment Assistants are needed for setting up data projectors and trouble shooting computers for speakers.  Please consider volunteering some of your time at the annual program by contributing a couple of hours to help with the A.V. equipment logistics.  It is a great opportunity to make new friends while giving a big boost to the program! Share your knowledge in a Workshop

Workshop Instructors are needed for: SD and Anterior Segment OCT; Basic and Advanced Fundus Photography and Advanced Stereo Photography, Fluorescein Angiography, B-Scan, Slit Lamp and Gonio Photography. Workshop and teaching guidelines/objectives will be provided.  The more workshop instructors we have, the more one-on-one time for our students! This is a rewarding way to contribute to the OPS, to network and to work on your training skills.  Workshop instructors mentor students through the workshop by addressing their questions and guiding the group of students through various aspects of the imaging process.  Each workshop instructor is chosen by the Workshop Coordinators for each discipline of our workshops. This is a terrific way to contribute to the OPS, to network, to work on your training skills and to receive free CEC credits. Lend a hand with Workshop Equipment Set-Up

Assistance is needed in getting all of the instruments from the storage area into the appropriate rooms for the hands-on workshops. We will also need 5-6 individuals to help move equipment on Thursday, October 13th, and again on Monday, October 17th/Tuesday, October 18th at the close of the program.  If you are interested in assisting with equipment in any way, please contact Stuart Alfred at (371) 517-9455 or by email at
