Mid-Year Meeting Update
February 16th by Michael P. Kelly, FOPS
So its your first time in San Francisco and the big question is: Should I ride the Cable Cars? ...and the answer is Most definitely!, Of course!, Absolutely!, Without question!, Don't miss it!, You've got to!....BUT, another form of transportation you should also enjoy -and I like this mode even more then the cable cars- is the F-line Vintage Street Cars. This is an historic fleet of street cars from the past and from all over the world. These are NOT reproductions! -they are restored orginals from place like Milan, Toronto, Zurich, HIroshima, Melbourne, Blackpool (England), Port (Portugal), Philly, LA, Brooklyn, Boston and yes, even Cleveland. The varied design and detail of these historic street cars is beautiful...its a treat to watch them tooling down Market Street and the Embarcadero, but don't miss a chance to hop on one and take a ride...even if you have no particular destination -just ride for while then hop one in opposite direction to come back. This is one of those "cheap thrills" you'll find all over the City-by-the-Bay. Learn more at: http://www.streetcar.org

And, if you're REALLY into it, they have a free-of-charge museum near the Ferry Plaza, open Tuesday -Sunday 10-6:00.
Rode them again this past trip and it's $2.00 to ride and you get a transfer to get back.

The city of San Francisco is known for many things… the
Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Fisherman's Wharf, Nob Hill and Alcatraz. It's
also been the subject of many hit songs such as Tony Bennett's ‘I Left My Heart
in San Francisco' and Journey's hit ‘Lights'. I'm very pleased to announce that
the OPS will be returning to San Francisco for our upcoming Mid-Year Program. The meeting is being held at the Hotel Kabuki in the heart of San Francisco's Japantown. This hotel holds a special place
in my mind as the location of one of my most embarrassing moments (more on that
As a member of the OPS Board of Education, I just returned
from our annual business meeting in San Francisco.
While we were there we did a site visit to
the Hotel Kabuki and heard the fantastic agenda for this year's Mid-Year program designed by Denise Barsness, CRA, COMT, ROUB, FOPS and Debra
Brown, CRA, COT.
This is truly going to be a one of a kind meeting and no one
should miss it! In an upcoming series of short pieces, I'll be highlighting
some of our great speakers, events and places to visit in San Francisco.
Be sure to look for information about our special
joint session with ASCRS, The
Japantown Cherry Blossom Festival and some of our great talks.
The enrollment for this meeting is limited so
please don't miss out on your chance to attend a great event with your fellow
OPS members. Oh and that embarrassing moment I mentioned earlier? Well, you'll
just have to come to the reception at the program to hear that one!
