Our  primary  task  in  the  retina  clinic  is  to  visualize  the  retina  and  determine  a  treatment  plan  based  on what  we  see.    With  the  limited  number  of  retina  specialists  in  the  United  States  and  around  the  world,  there  is  a  pressing  need  to  enhance  the  physician's  availability  and  ability  to  interpret  retinal  images.  Machine  learning  algorithms  allow  for  the  development  of  automated  diagnosis  technology  to  enhance the  efficacy  and  efficiency  of  the  eye  care  team.  In  this  Webinar  a  broad  overview  of  the  main  steps  involved  in  training  computer  algorithms  to  interpret  retinal  images will be given.  The  process  relies  on  large  amounts  of  high  quality  retinal  images,  and  therefore  ophthalmic  photographers  play a  key  role.  At  the  end  of  this  course,  participants  should  have  a  general  understanding  of  how  AI  algorithms  are developed,  and  the  ways  in  which  AI  can  enhance  retina  care.
