Cousins:

I had a recent inquiry from a technician who wanted to know the duration of instilled drops of tetracaine [proparacaine HCl] 0.5% for ophthalmic purposes.

After some literature searches I learned that after instilling, the effect is felt within 30 seconds.

Duration is listed variably at between 10' - 30', and re-instillation q/ 10' if a 'deeper effect' is required by the MD.

Your contributions on this subject are greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
