Hello,

In my humble opinion, Genteal is the best, both for its viscosity and ease of use by the echographer, as well as its effect, or lack or effect on the patient

Do NOT use the much cheaper "belly jelly". Their own MSDS sheet warns it as "toxic to the eye"

Likewise, preservatives in Goniosol can also irritate the fragile tissues of the eye, inspiring the patient to rub their eye and potentially scuff up the cornea ( least case) and/or cause a corneal abrasion should they rub aggressively and/or have a compromised cornea

GenTeal runs about 8.00 a tube or bottle. You can get about 3-4 patients out of it. Not a big financial drain for the benefit of being the patient's advocate

Respectfully,
Denice Barsness, CDOS, ROUB

Thank you Denise for your input,
I currently use genteal and by far the best. I have tried goniosol in the past, and like you said, it did irritate the patients eye and definitely do not use belly jelly

Thanks again

-————

Sergio Ginieis OCT-C, COA

I had replied to this post, but I guess my reply is in the cloud...
I absolutely agree with Denise! As someone with a preservative allergy, I would not want my patients feeling like I had hurt a cornea, when it is really a reaction to the preservatives.
We also use Genteal Gel. There has been a supply shortage lately, and we were given the genteal drops, which were too watery, and the patients complained about them running...
Apparently, there is going to be a new box design and they should be in stock in the next two weeks.
Libba

We had an older Bscan unit up until 2014. Back then, with a 'closed eye' we performed Bscans through the lid, and only used Goniosol, or even conventional Aquasonic 100 [tm] B-Scan transmission gel. We now have a new Accutome Bscan Plus, and we image with direct contact on an 'open eye', placing the Bscan probe directly on the conjunctiva in 4 cardinal positions. For this we use the same as mentioned above, Genteal Gel. Good Luck with your research, and Thank You for using the OPS Member Forums Sergio!
Jim

Last week our supply chain informed that the Genteal Severe and Systane Overnight are no longer available. The only sub they are suggesting is the Refresh Celluvisc. We have tried this and found it to be a bit too thin for our liking. Has anyone found another suitable replacement for ultrasound and gonio photography?
Thanks,
Tim
