Hi Sergio,

To be diplomatic about your question, I think you will find most users of each camera prefer the one they currently use.

For 30 years, I have only ever used Zeiss cameras. We have a 'fleet' of 450's in all the office which require fundus imaging. This was done so anyone trained to use a fundus camera would be able to cover any office in our service line. I really like the 450, but then I've been using it for many years.

Our hospital did recently pick up a couple of small private retina offices where they used Topcons. I am pretty sure they were the lower end of their product line (is that the DX?). The imagers there would get very good color images from those cameras. So I am certainly not going to knock the Topcon. The only issue these had was during FA's. The power would be maxed out and the images appeared to be a little weak (underexposed). Just didn't seem to have quite enough UMPH in the power settings. Maybe want to look into the higher end models.

Not sure if anyone else runs into that, but I will leave it for the Topcon users to chime in. I think either will do you well. Will be hard to decide, but as a life long Zeiss guy, I would lean toward Zeiss. (but nothing against Topcons!)

Good Luck!

Thank you for your input Gary!

The 50DX is actually on the higher end Topcon (I believe) A lot of manual settings, camera swing, pivot, eye piece view, etc.

Currently I'm using a Visucam nm/fa which is pretty much "Aim and shoot" kind of camera, I'm wanting to get something a little more manual and better (There's a lot a peripheral shots that I'm currently not able to acquire). If approved, Ideally I'll get the camera I want and the visucam would go the a satellite office.

Sadly it all comes down to budget, and I'm hoping they don't choose a camera based on the price tag.

Thanks again!

Sergio

An old topic and I'm not quite sure if you got the system that you are going to end up with, but I second Gary's recommendation of the Zeiss camera. I have not used the FF450 very frequently (a FF4 user here) but I have used it and the Topcon enough to know I prefer it. Nothing against the Topcon, I just prefer the Zeiss. But whatever you do, don't use Visupac. I hate their software (sorry Zeiss). I do not have a financial interest but I find Escalon Ophthavision very user friendly and their Megavision backs to take very good photos.
