My Supervisor has asked me to pass on a question to anyone using EPIC EMR.... Here is her question,

We are being asked to scan all dilating drops going forward into a MAR (Medication record) and I want to reach out to other sites using EPIC to see if they are doing this or have a pass on the diagnostic eye drops (dilators and analgesics).

Appreciate any comments you may have.

Thank you

We had this same issue. Been using EPIC since 2013. When you log something into the MAR it will trigger an avalanche of inquiries, billing issues. I never could get the EPIC team to realize that even if we logged in the drops, these are not charged to the patient. Same thing as logging in the FA injection into the MAR. Endless emails asking for billing info. It's bundled into the FA and EPIC can't seem to handle that. We just bypassed it and let the physicians log in the drops into THEIR records, and since the contrast medium for FA not a billable charge, we simply make notes in our own PACS

Not a satisfying answer but just sharing our own headaches with EPIC
