Is anyone "splitting" ICG doses? That is, do you use one bottle on more than one patient? If so, how many? Shelf (refrigerator) life? I've not done this... just curious. Thanks!

The ICG that we use is made for 2 doses, so you mix it once but the second dose is listed as needing to be used within 6 hours. We've held to that manufacturer recommendation for time and dosing. The ICG we order is a 25mg/vial that comes with a 10ml container of sterile water, we mix it all up and then just draw half of it (5ml) out into a 10ml syringe and add the 5ml of 10% Sodium Fluorescein.

Mark,

Like Paul, we typically use half of the vial of 25mg ICG (after reconstitution) per patient and use within 6 hours (per label instructions). Even with only using half, the Spectralis is so sensitive, I have to be parked over the gain knob to be ready to turn it down quickly to keep my images from being blown out.

We have a Spectralis and our protocol (private practice) is as follows:
0.5ml ICG mixed with 1.5ml FA.
ICG is reconstituted with 5ml sterile water.

After extensive image comparisons, we found that that dosage still get adequate and acceptable quality. We did this in an effort to decrease cost, (this was back last year when there was an ICG shortage and we also had to conserve usage).

Also, I feel it is important to note:
We have 6 Spectrali running all day. Vials are only kept for 6 hours after reconstitution but we typically run out by then. All our photographers share 1 vial and swab with alcohol before and after use.
