DICOM integration, using MDI, and HEYEX

Currently we're using the following softwares:

Advanced MD (billing and scheduling)
MDI (MD Intellesys) as our EMR
HEYEX (Heidelberg Eye Explorer), proprietary to Heidelberg Engineering

Presently we're looking to better integrate MDI with HEYEX using the Heidelberg DICOM software package. The sales rep wasn't able to say if it would work with MDI, and no sales reps at MDI have been able to answer that for me, neither has their technical support.

Is anyone on here using this combination of MDI with HEYEX?

Are you able to get the two to talk smoothly (ie without the wasted time from manual image imports into MDI)?

At present we have to upload each order separate from each other, assign the order type for the upload batch, and manually assign the eye to each image, right or left, before completing the image import.

What we're hoping for:

A way to integrate the two softwares so there's less repetitive/needless motions, less wasted time from needing to create new patients, assign diagnosis' to an individual encounter in HEYEX, etc.

A PACS integration software would also be nice to add in to the mix, but our first step in this is simply to find a way to get the two software packages to play nice (even if it means integrating Advanced MD into HEYEX as the means of getting MDI to play nice with it).

Paul,

From working with MDI and Nextech at a PACS level. They do not offer this deep level of DICOM integration. This has been promised for some time, but they have not released this.

Currently from my understanding to get any images into MDI you would need to manually upload them. Even when you have a PACS they do not manually ingest the forwarded images from the PACS into the EMR.

I've been trying to get this to happen for many of my mutual Zeiss and MDI customers for a few years now.

Not sure that this is helpful, but this has been my experience.

Mike

Mike,

That's the process we've been using with MDI and HEYEX, which is moderately functional but it feels like they (MDI) are in the dark ages when it comes to the true purpose of DICOM.

Sadly I've had 0 response back from MDI when I've contacted them about this kind of integration over the last (nearly) three years, I was hoping I'd just been barking up the wrong tree.
