Merge recently replaced two of our OIS computer towers to alleviate some connectivity issues and ever since the change we have noticed that the images are now extremely dark. We have to crank the flash all the way up to 300 and use the small pupil setting even on eyes with clear media and wide dilation. I've also tried to adjust the brightness/contrast settings but that only makes the images more grainy. I was just wondering if there were software settings that might have been reset when the re-install was performed or if this was just a normal part of the aging process of these TRC 50 D/EX cameras. I have also changed out the filter set and flash tube on one of the cameras without any resulting improvement as well.

A quick first check would be to pull up old images and see how they display on the new systems. If they look good it tells you are dealing with a capture NOT a display issue. Changing a PC/software won't affect the light efficiency or optics of your camera (flash tube etc) - but it certainly can change the behavior of your sensor. You are barking up the right tree suspecting that the configuration of your sensors or capture software probably were reset or set to the defaults of perhaps newer sensors. Brightness/contrast are really fine tuning, you need to get into the real settings for the camera sensor(s) Gain&Gamma/Histograms/Sensitivity/ISO/etc or whatever Merge calls those controls. Maybe a Merge user can tell you where to look. Hopefully these are exposed in the software and not buried in a .INI config file. Best of luck! J-
