One of my docs is looking into getting a slit lamp camera and he wants me to compare the haag streit IM900 with the Firefly by Eyefficient? (never heard of it) , hard to do when when I don't physically have them in front of me.

Does any of you have either one of these and could you give me feedback on them?

PS: As of now, we use an Ipod with an adapter to take slitlamp pics, not the best quality.

Thank you in advance

Hi Andy,

We briefly had a Firefly system here for testing last year. It seemed to work reasonably well and I think the price point was very competitive. The images were OK at best. They were a little noisy, warm and undersaturated, but I was comparing them to images taken with an old Zeiss photo slit-lamp with electronic flash and digital SLR.

We came to the conclusion that it wasn't a fair comparison because flash exposure makes a huge difference in image quality. I suspect the HS might have a better sensor, but don't know for sure. Again, the IM 900 would not be using flash, so would be subject to the same limitations as the Firefly or iPhone.

I've attached a composite of images from the Firefly for you to look at.

Hope this helps,
