I just came back to Ophthalmology after 13 years and starting to take fundus photos with a Canon Mark II camera. I trying to figure out what would cause perfect circles or white spots on the edge of the peripheral of the photographs. I think it is human or equipment error vs an actual medical problems with the patients' eyes as even test subject it can happen. I did review the manual and have been searching online and I haven't seen it address. Also the spilt lines for focus internally on the retina are fuzzy and not perfect during photos though the other photographer doesn't seem to notice that there is a problem. Could it be my glasses vs her not needing any distance correction? Thank you for your time.

I am so sorry. Just been here a short while and I do not know yet how to get the images from the system of the camera to my desktop. I will try to see if I can find a patient maybe get a picture from my cell phone (of course with no Patient data on it) and maybe upload from my cell phone. It is definitely not laser treatment. Almost as if water droplets of exactly same size, light intensity on a lens. I am sorry I do not have a photo to show yet, over the next few days I will be continuing my training and will see if I can get a picture or even better to try stop making an error that causes this :)

It sounds like your lens needs cleaning. I would try that first. See if any of the spots disappear. If not, It could be on an internal element, but I would start with the lens.
Alan
Alan Frohlichstein
5633 Crain Street
Morton Grove, Illinois 60053

847-965-7555
