Hey, is anyone else having this problem? We've received notification to stop using all MERGE hardware, computers, camera backs, etc...because of possible danger of fire or shock to patients. Anyone else having this issue? I have not seen a peep about it on Merge's website or anywhere else.

We've been getting the same memo's from our clinical research sponsors. We don't use anything from MERGE at our site so I haven't seen any issues first hand but they are telling everyone to stop using those machines.

It's been discussed a fair amount online and the general gist is:

1. Merge recommends NOT using any (See #2) of their products on patients due to an electrical current leak issue.
2. They haven't given any specific range of products for in/exclusion by S/N or any other identifiers...so one must assume any/all Merge capture hardware is included
3. They do not currently (excuse the pun) have a fix but will notify ASA they have one.
4. Some people have suggested using electricians etc to certify the equipment/ grounding products, etc, but Merge has not "blessed" any of this.
5. This is a brief summary based on discussions of various Merge users and other imagers -
6. I'd suggest contacting your Merge rep directly!!!

j-

We went about two weeks with our fundus cameras shut down. Turns out the 'correction' is a rather hefty UPS unit which was installed, cleared by Merge and now we are back up and running.
Won't get political about it, but our clinical engineering folks tested our equipment when we first received that first email from Merge and everything was in perfect order. I knew we would have been fine shooting images, but the Admins thought it best to pay heed to the notice and pull the plug, so to speak.
Hopefully, those of you who have Merge are getting your UPS units and are back up and running.

Gary
