<description><![CDATA[<p>Hi all,</p><p>My practice is looking at upgrading our OCTs and I would like some recommendations on instruments.&nbsp;</p><p>We currently are using Zeiss Cirrus 5000s and we are looking only at instruments that are OCT-A capable.</p><p>While the Cirrus 6000 is probably top of the list for us, are there any good OCT-A capable instruments from other manufacturers? Or is Zeiss still leading that market?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Any info would be appreciated.&nbsp;</p><p>Thanks!</p>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[OCT-A is an interesting topic between some photographers and camera manufacturers.<br /><br />While the Cirrus 6000 boasts 100khz scan rate, Heidelberg Engineering Spectralis OCT-2's now have Shift which allows the photographer to pick the khz for OCT-A.  85khz, or 125khz.  They're expecting to change to have 20khz, 85khz, 125khz, and I've heard up to 250khz from the Shift technology.  <br /><br />Across the board my biggest issue with some systems is they aren't modular.  The 6000 is using an intel 7th generation quad core (8 processing threads, 8mb cache).  The desktops that are coming out with the newest spectralis systems have 10 core (20 processing threads, 32mb cache).  <br /><br />We have an older OCT-2, and replacing the desktop alone has changed it to become our fastest OCT-2 in the clinic.  We have some sunsetting OCT 1 devices, some of them will be replaced with the Shift models.<br /><br />Each person and practice will have their own preference, I prefer being able to change the computer components as needed/desired for improvements, many devices from many companies don't offer that, and many other devices from many other companies do offer that.  For example, Topcon has devices on both sides of this argument.  "it's more compact" or "they work together better" are common arguments, and they're valid, they're just not the driving force for me.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[The new spectralis desktops have a 2tb SSD for the OS and software, then an 8TB HDD internally to the desktop.  The ram is upgradeable and technically you could add a second 12gb video card to the 12gb video card it already has.<br /><br />The OCT-A quality can largely be determined by patient view, and time for the scan.  On the new computers there seem to be less noise from the longer scans the older desktops performed, the same scan that took 90 seconds on a patient can take 10-15 seconds on a patient without noise from movement.  That's at 85khz.  When they push to 125khz that will improve more.  When they push to 250khz that will double from the 125khz.  <br /><br />I feel like yes, the quality isn't only comparable, for most patients I feel it's better.  The 6000 is a huge step forward from the 5000, but I don't feel it's as competitive a product as it should have been for how it has been marketed.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Aaron,<br /><br />I love my Spectralis, but IMHO, the best OCTA device for how quickly it captures and the quality of the scans is the Optovue Solix. I have no financial interest but I really like that device for OCTA. I also like the Zeiss PlexElite SS-OCTA but only when it is able to track, which is very difficult at times and quite infuriating at others. As Paul stated, the scan rate has improved to 125 kHz, but we haven't turned that on for our Shift capable device, but have seen it is use and it does speed up the acquisition process. I hope to get it upgraded soon.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Paul,<br /><br />I know that it is still primarily used for research, so I don't know if it available for strictly clinical use. We just got two more for two of our clinical trials sites here and in San Antonio. Like I hinted at (when I said I liked it 😊, but didn't elaborate on) the image quality is stellar, both on 100 and 200 kHz, only if it will track. One of the most infuriating things was trying to do a 15 x 9 montage Angio scan and the tracking algorithm would not progress. I would have a good view of the fundus, be centered in the pupil, and have a well saturated OCT cross sectional image, but the scan would not progress.]]></description>
