In an effort to become more efficient, UNC is moving towards an electronic photo request form. Has anybody else made this transition? I'm curious to hear how it has worked out in your clinic. Can your physicians draw on the form? Do the doctors like it? Do you like it?

Thanks!

Sarah

We have an electronic medical record system here (EPIC) and there is an electronic photo form we use through that. I have never seen anyone make a drawing on it, so I will assume that is a non function. If they need to give us any additional instructions on what to shoot, it's usually given verbally or they type a little note to the request.

When they are done placing the order, it prints out in paper form in the photo room. It would be great to eliminate the paper, but I haven't figured that part out yet.

Do the docs like it? I would say for the most part they do. But we have a couple of computer weak docs who won't place the order so we have to.

Do I like it? Yes, with the exception of the paper printouts.

Also, on real busy days, when that printer keeps spitting out request after request, everyone's blood pressure goes up and up!

Let me know if you have any other questions, Sarah.

Gary- this is really great info for me, as we are prepping to go to Epic -thank you. Are you using Kalidescope also? Mind if i pick your brain when we get a little closer? Maybe we need an Epic Interest Group on the website, if there are enough cousins on it or going to it?.....anyone else out there on Epic?

Our office (actually the whole hospital) is about to finish the transition to epic. In-pt transitioned last year. Ophthalmology is using Kaleidoscope in conjunction with epic but we, so far, will be keeping hard copy request forms. I would be interested to learn how other offices are doing with this transition....

sarah, we have also transitioned to emr and our program was actually created by a retinal specialist. our system allows the dr to enter fluorescein request info and there are extended ophthalmoscopy drawings in the electronic record. if we need to look at it the dr goes old fashioned on us and tells us what they want if it's specific!

Michael and group,

We have been using EPIC for MANY years, long before Kalidescope came into the mix. We did have a meeting with the folks at EPIC about purchasing the Kalidescope program, but so far, our group has not acted on it... not sure if we will ever get there.

I would be happy to talk about EPIC if you have questions, but if it's Kalidescope info you're looking for, I would think you're better off talking with those who already have the program in use.

Sarah,

It sounds like this might be a good question to investigate in the Image Mangement breakout session at the OPS mid-year meeting. I would point you to the midyear page with links to the program & descriptions, but I'm guessing you already know about this ;-)

Looks like a good program and based on the sponsor list, I'm assuming several vendors with electronic image management solutions will be there to answer questions like this.

Gary,

Good info! I like the signature block on your posts and until I saw it, didn't realize there's a specific tool for adding a signature to forum posts. I might have to give it a try. I suggest adding a photo to your profile page so your smiling face (or frowning if you prefer) is attached to your posts as well... I like that we can see who we are talking to on the forum. With you we just get the little gray mystery person icon. That's so boring...

Tim- Thanks for pointing out the Image Management Breakout session. We will have 8 or 9 vendors participating in the breakout session. They will each speak for a few minutes about their program and then there will be time for attendees to actually see the software for themselves. The vendors will be there during the entire two days so there will be plenty of opportunities to review their image management software. Stage 2 for meaningful use is coming up soon and I hear that it involves image management!

Sarah

Sarah,

I know this course is primarily Image Management but was wondering how many EMR companies might/will be there.

Although we are reasoanably happy with our current EMR system my Director asked me to evaluate what is out there now.

Thanks,

A couple of the image management vendors also have an EMR. The focus of this is intended to be image management, but I'm sure they'd be glad to answer your questions on EMR as well.

You can go here to see a list of all of the sponsors for the Mid-Year Program.
