We have always used 92250 for FPs and AFs on the Heidelberg. Until last week when we got a new Heidelberg rep and he swears up and down 92499 will work. He also says that we can code 92250 and 92499 on the same visit. We will see.

92250©
Eye exam with photos

Note: Use 92250 only to report photographs obtained with a camera on film or digital media.

92499©
Unlisted ophthalmological service or procedure

Note: Use 92499 to identify fundus images obtained with scanning laser equipment.

HI all,

We have been fighting the good fight about billing for FAF here at Moran, and to settle the issue, I contacted the coding specialist at AAO.

You can bill for FAF using 92250, you can use the modifier if you choose. There is no restriction on what instrument is being used - fundus camera or SLO

BUT fundus imaging is still bundled to OCT, so if you are doing OCT as well, or any other kind of fundus imaging (not angioraphy of course), you will only be reimbursed for one procedure.

We have a retinal specialist here who asks for so many kinds of imaging, we refer to it as Dr. X stew... HD OCT, FAF, IR, FP, FA, ICG etc.......... but based on the report from the AAO expert, only half (three) of these procedures will be reimbursed.

If you are doing FAF without FP or OCT, you are good to go with 92250.

This is a good reminder that there is a finite amount of money in the Medicare coffers......

Save sight today,

Paula,

This is great, very helpful info.

We have a couple of multiple imaging procedure ordering providers during single visits here too.

We "lovingly" refer to them as "Home Runs" or "Grand Slams".

Thanks for posting.
