Ok everyone, we used to have optimal right? can we now use the forum as a new way to post topics, suggestions, questions, etc? I think it may be a good way to get the ball rolling on inquisitive topics us fellow ophthalmic photographers share!

Hi Heather,

I agree, I'm excited about this new method of networking with colleagues & friends.

I just wanted to point out that Optimal is still alive and active. This OPS member forum is not intended to replace Optimal. They are two different vehicles with different audiences.

I think it might help to explain a few things about Optimal. Optimal has never been an official OPS discussion group. It was started and maintained by Joe Warnicki and Paul Montague, purposely separate from the OPS, even though many people mistakenly assocate Optimal with the OPS. Joe continues to graciously maintain Optimal as an open forum for anyone with an interest in ophthalmic imaging. Optimal has a "flavor" of comeraderie that's developed over many years and my guess is that's unlikely to change.

The new OPS forum is visible to anyone visiting the OPS website, but participation (posting) is limited to OPS members who are signed in to the site. It is being offered as a benefit to our members. We (the OPS) don't want to compete with Optimal and believe there is room for both forums. In fact David Cimino has utilized both forums by asking the same questions in both places and has gotten good answers in both forums.

I hope this helps.

HI Heather,

Welcome to the OPS member forum. Looks like Tim beat me to the punch in answering your question about OPTIMAL and he did so elegantly.

I will just reinterate - the imaging community still has OPTIMAL! OPTIMAL is independent of the OPS or any imaging society, and has members from around the world who participate in discussions.

OPTIMAL is free to anyone, anywhere, who has an interest in ophthalimc imaging, and there are members from around the world who participate in discussions.

The OPS member forum is just that. - your fellow OPS members discussing and sharing about imaging issues, Society business, or personal interest! It is exclusively for OPS members.

Glad you found your way here - tell your colleagues how to find this forum!

thanks guys! I kind of read into it a little after the fact of thinking of something to post to get the ball rolling! I am thankful for the explanation of both the forum and optimal and glad to know optimal is still up and running! I think it is a great way for people to understand the field of ophthalmic photography and make use of optimal to learn new techniques, how different things are done in the field, etc.

So the next thing is getting other people onto this new forum and making use of it, also!

Thanks!

I'm trying to find out what I can about Optimal, there are so many hits for the standard pronunciation of it I can't seem to find the actual group. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Paul,
If you read the explanations above by Tim and Paula, you can see what Optimal is all about. You actually have to subscribe to Optimal by going to freelists.org and selecting Optimal. It is a free subscription. Once you are subscribed, you will then be able to post on Optimal.

Hope this helps,
Barb McCalley

Thank you Barb.

I spoke with Olivia Rainey the other day and she filled me in. Unfortunately I was looking for Optimal or Optomal (or other variants of possible spellings) as the website, but the freelists.org was the big part I was needing in order to find it.
