Hi William

We took delivery on 2 Canon non-myds a few weeks ago. They are pretty slick and easy to use. They are also very small/light compared to other non-myds on the market.

The image quality appears to be good, but not as good as a myd camera with a larger sensor (the canons come with a modified canon dSLR).

Most important in our situation was the software, as we'll be dumping these images directly into our hospital RIS/PACS, which DOES NOT support the newer OP image types used by ophthalmology vendors for DICOM objects (vs. older generic VL). The Canon software team has been very responsive to general user feedback as well as specific technical issue we have encountered during the DICOM integration process.

It's been a couple years since i've played with the Zeiss non-myd, but the image quality on those things really impressed me. However it is at the opposite end of the spectrum from the Canon in that it is a large set-up with a large table and really isn't designed to be moved around.

The canon is very small and light and designed to be highly mobile.

Just one person's opinion.

Good Luck and let everyone know what you think when you get some in for a "road test."

A couple of years ago we purchased a Canon CR-1 Mark II non-myd camera that we use with our Symphony Web. It is a good camera with decent quality images and really easy to use. Most of the time we do our imaging on dilated patients and have been able to do stereo disc photos easily with this camera. One thing to note: if you want an external fixation target it is an additional cost and has to be ordered extra- at least it was that way with us buying it through the former OIS for our Symphony Web.

Hi William,

Recently I was at the Mid Year program 2012 in Chapel Hill NC, and was drawn to the attention of this lightweight camera system from I-Optics.  Here is their contact info;

It's a Non Myd, SLO Laser driven, easy to move pictures, and portable table top camera system that is just hitting the market.

I took it for a spin, and it has an auto program to find the center of the pupil, and then averages the working distance. I think it takes 8 photos in three seconds, and it's done!

The territory manager Wayne and Monique were very receptive to our OPS group, and that we are the digital imaging experts in the posterior pole, and they told me that the company is young and originates in but, up and coming.

I'm hoping for another demo the next time there is a show in town.

Hope this works for you, and keep us posted.

(Trying to import a photo of their set up at UNC from my iphone; let's see how I made out.)
