We finally bought the HS BX900 and LOVE IT! You cannot go wrong with this one. We had the BQ900 with IM 900 video capture and was VERY disappointed.
We tried the TOPCON and it was good, but did not compare to the HS. It was acceptable though.

Good luck.

Cynthia

A couple of things to add but in the context of me being the HS USA Imaging Consultant.

I know Cynthia had a bad experience with her HS IM-900 and then changed over to the HS BX-900 and loves it. I tried to help Cynthia with the IM as much as I could, although HS USA only sells and does service in the US, not Canada. The difference between the IM-900 and BX-900 is that the IM has a high resolution video capture while the BX comes with a high resolution Canon DSLR. The IM has a live video view with a "history" trigger. What that means is when an image is captured, it allows you to scroll through 21 frames and choose the still image/images you think are best. Both systems are attached to the HS BQ-900 slit lamp, which in my opinion, has the best optics of any slit lamp produced.

One question I would ask you is what are you going to use the images for. If you want quality images for the patient record with a system that makes it easier for non photographers to get good images, I would choose the IM-900. If you want high resolution images for publication/scientific posters, the BX-900 is your only choice. We have a great number of IM-900s in the US that our customers love. The majority of the top eye institutes, group practices and universities have replaced their old Zeiss photo slit lamps with the BX-900. When looking at the price of the BX-900 consider that a number of our customers purchase it without our capture software, which reduces the cost.

The bottom line for me when I was working clinically and making an imaging purchase was always the optics. You can be the best ophthalmic photographer in the world but your images are only going to be as good as the optical glass you are making them through. I know this sounds exactly like someone who works for a company trying to sell some product but the reality is I chose to work for Haag-Streit because they have the best optics (in addition to being a quality company).

If I can help with anymore information, please let me know.

Mark Maio
