Group,

In case you weren't able to enjoy the wonderful display of the 2012 Scientific Exhibit at McCormick Place, this year, during the 43rd Annual Educational Program in Chicago, IL, I've uploaded a short recording of a walk around of the exhibit, onto a link at Youtube.com..

This was recorded Saturday Evening, November 10th, 2012, 6:00 pm, with a handheld CANON Powershot SX 210 Digital camera with a movie function.

This is a wonderful display from the 2012 Scientific Photographic Contest Committee of the OPS, and, I applaud their hours and hours of work to make this display happen for the OPS, and for it's arrangement, taking place at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Exhibit Hall at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL.

Enjoy,

Jim

JIm,

A question for you on the video link: Did you paste it into the Attach Video field below the subject line, or just paste it into the text box as part of your message?

I only ask because I would've thought attaching or embedding in the Attach Video field would've dropped it in as a hyperlink (but it didn't if that's where you pasted it).

If that's the case, another alternative would be to click the Insert tab on the text editor, choose the hyperlink option and past the youtube link there like this: http://youtu.be/NwQ5XYqZ7yc

If you set the Target to "Blank" from the dropdwon menu, it will open in a new browser window.

You can also select any text you want to serve as the hyperlink and go through the same steps to make it a hyperlink: 2012 Scientific Exhibit - Walk Around

We're still figuring out alot of the features of this website, so I hope you don't mind me hijacking your topic to test things out.

tim

2012 Scientific Exhibit - Walk Around - Experiment 1

OK, I'll bite Tim,

I did use the Attach Video: field, just under the subject line option, and just pasted the youtube link inside there in the first scenario. I did not place it in the body of the text. OK, now that we have that straight, let's try another route Tim.

For all of you following along, In Youtube.com, I found my video using the Video Manager, this is how one finds the http://XXXX link for your uploaded youtube video.

Once inside the V Manager, click on Edit.

The VIDEO INFORMATION is all displayed on the Right Side of a Video Sample of what you have just uploaded. The URL link is on the 8th line of information.

Next, I swung my mouse through this segment, and copy that URL information with a right click.

In this experiment, I opened up the text edit window as Tim instructed me, and clicked on Insert, and, on the bottom row, enlisted the YouTube (in RED) and, it opens up a blank hyper link window ion top of this typed dialogue.

In this window, there is a "OPEN BOX" labelled "Paste YouTube Video Code Here... I did not use this.

Also In this window, there is an open line labelled URL: This is where I pasted my Youtube video link which begins with http://youtu.be/NwQ5XYqZ7yc, etc etc etc...

...And then, I pressed OK.

Below, is a representative window for the video link i'd previously uploaded on Youtube.com

It appears to be the correct one.

This looks good so far, and so I will click this window 'HERE", end this dialogue below the trailer, and see what generates.

Let's see if she flies....

"Full Power Scotty!"

JIm, Nice job, that worked. The attach video field makes you think it will embed, or at the least hyperlink the youtube url. Go figure. Your latest method worked.

I'm gonna try another simple insert here to see if this'll work :

We're still figuring out how to drive this website, so I appreciate your efforts, I had successfully embedded YouTube videos in other parts of the website on custom pages, but not in a forum post. This way works well. Thanks again.

Great idea Jim!!!!!

It's been an ongoing project for the Scientific Exhibit Committee to try and find ways to allow people who don't attend the annual meeting to actually "see" the images. The first and second place images are, of course, published in high quality in the JOP, but there isn't adequate space for all of the winning images.

We've also tried to post flash-type galleries on the web site, but that's labor and time intensive and there can be significant lag time between the meeting and when those get uploaded. Including a Powerpoint or similar would be much easier...however this makes it a bit too easy for nefarious web-surfers to scoop up images w/o acquiring permission.

While people can't really study the images in detail...it at least let's them get a glimpse of the images, and an idea of the quality of material that OPS members can create.

You forgot to get a close-up of the "no photography" signs! ;)

Thanks for this!
