Is anybody out there who is planning to purchase a new Spectralis considering paying the extra $5000 up front for the "color-ready" model just in case they may want to add the color component later? For others who are buying the entire color component up front: what potential good uses do you see for this type of color imaging?

Thanks.

I have not personally viewed the color mode on the Spectralis.

For our diagnostic center, since we already have a very fine OIS color fundus system, I would be disinclined to spend money to retrofit my Spectralis. I really enjoy the fine quality of image our Winstation puts out ( color images) and find their Montague program ( as supported by recent Scientific Session presentation by Leslie ) to be superior. We will often shoot our angiograms on the Winstation for this feature alone. Despite our best efforts, we have not been happy with the composite program on Spectralis. While we love the eye tracking mode, the ghosting of vessels in this format is not as pleasing. I do not mean this to be a "dish" on Spectralis. I love the instrument, just not this feature.

We'll be investing our money in the Wide Angle lens instead.
