Dear OPS friends, colleagues, and life-long buds,

I will be stepping down as director of ophthalmic
photography at Kellogg by the end of this year. My wife, Jenny, has taken a
position with the nursing faculty at UMass Boston, and so we’re moving to
Boston.

What I will do is not yet specific, but will involve spending
more time on my art career that’s been sharing the calendar with ophthalmic
photography for these past 29 years.

I wish to thank this wonderful organization for providing
the solid structure to establish and be recognized in our careers. The
enthusiastic members of the OPS have helped guide me, and many others, in our
profession and also helped to validate and give a voice to our work as
ophthalmic photographers. Because of the OPS I’ve had some amazing
opportunities. I’ve learned how to give lectures, teach a class, edit
manuscripts, write a scientific paper, and even figure out how to be editor of
a journal.

I am undoubtedly leaving one of the best places to work in ophthalmic
photography. Not only does Kellogg have impressive new facilities, but also a supportive
faculty that appreciates and demands good photography, and provides support and
encouragement in whatever way it can.

There will soon be a search committee to find a new
director. I encourage any of you who have an interest to consider applying. In
advance of the job being posted, please feel free to contact me with your
interest or questions. Not only is Kellogg a great place to work, but Ann Arbor
is also a great place to live. I will miss them both!

-Richard
