Hi Cynthia

Assuming that the sensor size stayed the same, then a higher res/higher pixel count sensor would most likely require increased flash output. The correlation is very similar to switching from coarse grain film to finer grain film. The pixel sites are smaller so they gather less light.

It is possible that they might have provided a large sensor, but this would require adjusting the image optics to cover the larger sensor (aka new relay lens etc) and make the conversion that much more complicated and expensive - so less likely.

There are software corrections that could help compensate (gamma/gain) but these usually result in greater image noise.

Perhaps some fiddling with the setting could get you to a happy medium?

Jim is correct. Tweaking the gain & gamma might help. I would run exposure tests & tweak the gain up until you hit the same flash setting you used with your previous sensor. Then inspect those images for increased noise & decide if the noise is noticeable/acceptable. It's always a compromise between flash output & noise.
