Hello-

I am trying to figure out why some of our FA's through our Axis system looks kinda funny. We are trying hard to keep our histograms balanced, not over sharpening, although that is the way it looks when we view the FA's in Axis.

How would I go about setting our JPEGs to a higher quality if not already set, or would there be any specific settings that I could change the way we are saving so the images are interpreted correctly from monitor to monitor......?

Any expert advice on how I can make our FA's look nicer would be great!!

Thanks,

Hi Addie.

Zooming in on the images you attached sure does illustrate significant JPEG artifacting.

Both of the images are pretty dark, do you see the same problem with brighter images? Can you otherwise pinpoint what differentiates images that have this issue and those that don't?

Are you saving JPGs out of imagenet and then is Axis re-compressing them? Maybe you should export a non-compressed (or lossless) image type from your capture system and then see what Axis does to the image?

Ultimately, i'd think Escalon would be the best ones to help you with this, but it's interesting to hear about the issues people have with their various systems because you never know when you might encounter something similar.

Thanks Jim-

I have contacted them and it sounds like they are not compressing our JPEGs. So I am contemplating storing our images as PNGS but they really eat up the archive quickly.

I did notice that images on one particular capture station look different from monitor to monitor. I have installed colormunki to help with the diplay to see if this will make a difference during capturing.
