Congratulations to all those OPS members who submitted images for the 2013 Scientific Exhibit Photo Competition!

Statistics for the competition are as follows: we had 487 entries into the print division and 165 stereo entries from about 100 entrants. While the volume for these fluctuates each year, these numbers were well within the "normal" range. Our international participation was excellent with entrants from 12 nations across 4 continents! Overall, I must admit that this year we had exceptional quality and there were a number of stunning images, making the judging that much harder!

The Scientific Exhibit committee also made some substantial operational changes this year. Heather Carmello took over the Stereo Division coordination and did an excellent job. We also took advantage of the digital stereo submission format to move away from judging the images by clustering around a computer monitor. Instead, we utilized online webinar software and hosted the judging remotely. Special thanks to the Stereo judges (below) who spent over 3 hours online one evening to critique and select the Stereo Division winners.

Stuart B. Alfred, C.R.A., O.C.T.-C., William S. Fischer, C.R.A., Heidi Nelson C.R.A., C.O.A., James D. Strong, C.R.A., O.C.T.-C.

Let's also acknowledge the print division judges who traveled to Penn State Hershey and gave up an entire saturday to judge the 450+ print entries:

Heather E. Carmello, C.R.A., Sandor R. Ferenczy, C.R.A., O.C.T.-C., Michael R. Turano, C.R.A., O.C.T.-C., Eddie Aminlari, M.D., Deepti Saini, M.D.

If you've read along this far, here comes the big pay out; announcing the Best of Division winners for Print and Stereo:

Linda Goings,CRA from Kellogg Eye Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan for her First Place Clinical Setting print titled, "Prosthetist"

Mark Clark, CRA from Wake Forest Eye Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina for his First Place Stereo Slitlamp image titled,"Traumatic Cataract".

Finally, the 2013 Csaba L. Martonyi Award winner was Mark Clark, CRA and "Traumatic Cataract"

There are two file attachments to this message which list all of the winners in both divisions for 2013.

Again, congratulations to everyone who participated. If you weren't able to get your images in by the deadline, remember, the OPS/ASCRS Photo Competition is now open and accepting entries.

Hey Matt

The Committee does "try" to get these online...eventually. It's a time-consuming process when you roll it into everything else that happens behind the scenes with the exhibit.

That said, the SEC is looking for new members who might be interesting in helping with the online/web presence of the Exhibit and the images.

We need people who are technically savvy and can deal with various applications and some basic web programming. We have all the components to do this, we just need someone with the time and dedication to handle it on an on-going basis.

IF you are interested in this project OR helping with the Exhibit Committee, contact me at:
