Annual Program 2016
Share |

Dear Colleagues,

Each year, the Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society strives to offer the highest quality of education. In October 2016 we welcome you to back to Chicago with a program that provides both a depth and breadth of knowledge in the field of ophthalmic imaging.

We are offering 38 tried and true courses along with another 38 brand new courses that are organized to provide the opportunity to develop your own areas of specialization. The Ophthalmic Imaging Crash Course is back by popular demand, helping to propel new photographer's into this profession. Ultrasound courses have been designed to better address the needs of new and experienced sonographers. Anterior Segment Imaging courses are aligned sequentially and include new topics like corneal topography and UBM in addition to core content of AS-OCT, slit lamp and goniography.  Topics related to Research Imaging were designed to meet the needs of those interested in clinical imaging techniques and protocols.   New introductory courses in Low Vision and ocular function such as Microperimetry and Electrophysiology may enhance your understanding of your patient, the eye and ocular assessment beyond the photographer’s primary role of documenting anatomy and physiology.

For those preparing to write the Certified Retinal Angiography (CRA) and Optical Coherence Tomography Certified (OCT-C) exams in the future, look for the CRA and OCT-C labeled courses. It must be noted that instructors are offering their lecture independent of the certification program.  However, by identifying the relevant course descriptions for the certification exams, we have made it easier for future examinees to decide which OPS courses to take.

An area that is exciting and new this year is the ability to offer lectures and hands-on workshops in OCT-Angiography.   As Eye Imaging Experts we can be at the forefront of understanding this fascinating new imaging modality.

The overall goal of this year's program is to provide a solid "depth" of learning in the core education of ophthalmic imaging. At the same time this year we are, providing exposure to other subjects that will expand one’s expertise with a "breadth" of understanding and new knowledge of other areas of ophthalmology.  This approach is the result of a notable trend that seems to emerge from many recent job postings. New positions are requiring photographer's to be able to offer other clinical skills. Knowledge of special testing procedures like ERG, microperimetry, low vision adaptations, clinical research imaging and ultrasonography may be the complementary skills that can set the ophthalmic photographer above the pack. Depth and breadth.

I sincerely hope this program gets you to where you want to be as an Eye Imaging Expert!
