Dear Colleagues,
We are overwhelmed by the generosity of all the World-Class Speakers that have enthusiastically agreed to speak at our Mid-Year Program in Chapel Hill!  With both Duke and the University of North Carolina in such close proximity, this area is a hotbed of cutting-edge research and technological discoveries, and as such serves as a cauldron of dynamic new ideas - what better place to hold our meeting?  In addition to a stellar two day 16-credit program, we are offering the CRA practical test and two Breakout/Workshop sessions focused on Image Management and Adobe Photoshop.  On tap for Saturday evening is a Home-Brew Reception with famous North Carolina Barbeque and a Corn Hole tournament; a great chance to catch-up with old friends, and make new ones.  For those traveling from far away, a tour of UNC-Chapel Hill will be available Friday night.  Learn about the history, campus life and campus lore from UNC Alumni.  We are thrilled to welcome you to Chapel Hill!

The town of Chapel Hill offers many other distractions on Franklin Street including boutique shopping, a historic movie theater and all the clothes in UNC blue you could ever wish for. The Morehead Planetarium, a former NASA training site, is available to educate visitors on the wonders of the stars and the universe. The Ackland Art Museum is a cultural hub of North Carolina and contains a variety of works from many countries. On Friday June 8th, 2012 Chapel Hill and Carrboro will host the 2nd Friday ArtWalk, opening the doors to many local galleries. Other nearby attractions include many golf courses, the NC Botanical Gardens and UNC landmarks such as the Belltower, the Old Well and the statue of Charlie "Choo Choo" Justice.

Chapel Hill is a foodie paradise and features a wide array of cuisine including: Asian, Seafood, Ethiopian, Indian, BBQ, Thai, Greek, Mediterranean, Brew-Pubs, French, Italian, Sushi, Southern/Soul Food.  Some personal favorites include the 'Bella Burger' at Sandwhich, the Shrimp and Grits at Crook's Corner, and the mac n' Cheese at Milltown. With options like this no one should go hungry!

After enjoying home-brews created by fellow OPSers on Saturday night, you might be in the mood to check out some of the fine craft brews that North Carolina has to offer.   There are many local breweries to check out:
  • Chapel Hill:  Top of the Hill Restaurant & Brewery and Carolina Brewery
  • Raleigh:  Aviator, Big Boss, Boylan, LoneRider, Natty Greene’s, Roth
  • Durham:  Bull City, Fullsteam, Triangle
If you are able to spend an extra day or two in North Carolina, consider traveling to our mountains or our coast.  Ranked #4 in the country, relaxing at the Outer Banks will be perfect in June.  You can also visit historic Kitty Hawk, where the Wright brothers soared into history with their first flight, or blaze your own trail and go hang gliding!  If you prefer the mountains, Asheville has much to offer with great views, great food, national parks and the largest private residence ever constructed in American History, the Biltmore Estate.
